BBC RADIO![]() I worked as a researcher on Afropop, a 4-part radio documentary series investigating the rise of African hip-hop. The series was produced by Bobby Seiler for 'The Music Room' on the BBC World Service and later broadcast again on 'TXU' on BBC 1Xtra. Apart from extensive research I also travelled to Nairobi, Kenya, to meet and interview artists, producers and DJs. I also contributed to the scripts and my artist JJC recorded the links for the programme. Listen

In 2004 I contributed to the playlist and script of an edition of BBC Radio 3's internet radio show World On Your Street. The programme, produced by Maud Hand and with links recorded by JJC, featured African music of various styles from African acts based in the UK. In
2003 I worked alongside JJC on African Vibes, the first African
music show on BBC Radio 1Xtra which featured African hip-hop, bongo
flava, hip-life, Kwaito and much more. I was the sole researcher sourcing
material from Africa and the Diaspora. This involved liaising with labels
and promoters and also directly with the artists, both signed and unsigned.
I worked closely with the show's producer and was responsible for booking
guests and arranging competition prizes. I also attended all live broadcasts
of the programme and logged the shows' playlists and later distributed
these to my media list. |
